CBI offers a number of special techniques in histology and also welcomes requests for customized techniques.
Ocular Histopathology
We offer paraffin, plastic and cryosections for routine, special and immunohistochemical staining. Furthermore, we provide digital image analysis/morphometry for assessment of lesions such as subretinal plaque formation, retinal neovascular proliferation, ocular inflammation, retinal whole mount preparations, retinal leukostastis assessments and corneal ulceration or thinning. Our histopathology may be coordinated with in-life OCT and ERG assessments.

Arthritis
CBI provides high-quality preparation of rodent joints from inflammation and arthritis models including decalcification, careful orientation of the joint, sectioning to include joint space, cartilage, synovium and related soft tissues. Scoring of the cartilage changes, inflammation, pannus formation, synovial changes, and periarticular soft tissues are provided in a complete report with statistical analysis and photomicroscopy. Immunohistochemistry is also available.

Atherosclerosis
CBI is experienced and skilled in the preparation of gelatin or nongelatin aortas (modified Paigen) and brachiocephalic arteries in rodent atherosclerosis models, including special staining (e.g., Movat’s pentachrome, oil red O) and serial sectioning of the entire vessel with selection of specific levels for specific morphometry of the plaque and vessels. Complete reports with statistical analysis of the plaque areas and ratios are provided. Immunohistochemistry is also available.

Infarction Models
CBI offers specialized preparation, staining and assessment of infarction models such as myocardial infarction (LAD) and MCOA (stroke). Scoring of infarct size, inflammation and other relevant changes are provided in a complete report with statistical analysis and photomicroscopy. Immunohistochemistry and histomorphometry are also available.
Neuromuscular Junction and Myofiber Assessment
CBI offers specialized preparation, staining and assessment of muscle and nerves, including immunohistochemical assessment of the neuromuscular endplates and myofiber size. This method is of particular interest for assessment of botulinum products in development. Immunohistochemistry is also available.
Dermal Wound Healing Assessment
CBI offers specialized preparation, staining and assessment of dermal wound healing including careful orientation of the skin and subcutis, special stains, assessment and scoring of epithelial integrity, inflammation, collagen formation and healing. Immunohistochemistry is also available.
